The importance of discernment is at an all-time high. To be discerning means to perceive, understand, and make a judgement. When you are able to be discerning it gives you more authority over your life. I bring this up because we are constantly consuming content, and what we consume influences the way that we think. So, It’s important when you’re watching content to pause and ask yourself do I agree with this or not? I’ve noticed moments when I am mindlessly scrolling where a person will be speaking about a subject and I will take everything that they say as truth. Not everything that everyone is saying on the internet is ultimate truth. So, that is why it is important to ask yourself is this true or is this just someone’s opinion, and do I agree with it or not. It’s time to stop letting other people control the way you think, and where your attention goes. Take back control of what you choose to think and believe. It’s important to be discerning of the people that are creating the content you consume. This can be difficult because most of the time we are not seeing behind the scenes. Not everything you see online shows the entire picture of who a person is. Most people just post the best parts of themselves online. Just because they have a large following does not mean that they are a great person. I’ve learned it is best to not put people on a pedestal. Also, not just online but in person it is very important to be discerning of the people that you allow in your life. This is key in dating and meeting new people. Are you able to determine the intentions of this person? What are the intentions of this person trying to come into your life? When you are able to discern what another person’s intentions are with you then you are able to decide whether to allow them in your life or not. If their intentions do not match up with your values or what you’re looking for, then you know to not allow it in your life. So I just hope this serves as a reminder to try to be more mindful in what you are consuming and intentional with the people you allow in your life.
